Believe in the Impossible

 • Jerry Roames • Series: Miracles

(Romans 10:17) So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Mark 9:22-23) “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” "‘If you can’?" said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” (Mark 4:38-41) Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind, and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him! (Mark 5:1-13) They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes. When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an impure spirit came from the tombs to meet him. This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain. For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones. When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God’s name don’t torture me!” For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!” Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” “My name is Legion,” he replied, “for we are many.” And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area. A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. The demons begged Jesus, “Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them.” He gave them permission, and the impure spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned. HOW DO WE KEEP BELIEVING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE IMPOSSIBLE? 1. Make Jesus The Object Of Our Faith. (Mark 4:38) The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?" (Mark 4:40) He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” (John 16:33) “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” 2. Trust Jesus Loves Us More Than We Can Imagine. (1 Peter 5:7) Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 3. Remember Jesus’ Power Was Proven On The Cross. (Mark 5:15) When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. (Isaiah 53:5) But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. (Romans 8:11) The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you.
